In 1935 the government sent out a request for bid to Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Reo and White Motor Company to build a bus suitable for transportation in National Parks. 
 
 
White Motor Company in Cleveland, Ohio, renowned for its exceptional build quality and reliability won the bid. A Russian industrial stylist designed their 14-passenger tour bus, Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky with assistance from White President R. F. Block and Herman Bender of the Bender Body Company.
 
 
De Sakhnoffsky designed the streamlined grille and Bender built everything from the cowl back. The buses featured a roll-back canvas top for open-air views. Ninety-eight Model 706s were delivered to Yellowstone National Park between a1936 and 1939.
 
 
The buses were eventually retired in the 1960’s, after which many were sold into private collections.
 
 
We acquired this 1937 White Model 706 former Yellowstone National Park tour bus from a ranch in southwestern Montana, the bus had always been stored inside. The chassis is the original configuration with a 318 cubic inch 16A flathead 6-cylinder engine producing 94 horsepower. There is no rust. All the glass is good. The bus has been repainted, and reupholstered and the canvas rollback top has been replaced. Bus number 400 runs and drives well. 
 
 
The White Motor Company Model 706 tour bus rested on a 176-inch wheelbase chassis, powered by a robust 318 cubic inch 16A flathead six-cylinder engine producing 94 horsepower.
 
 
Former Yellowstone National Park tour bus #400 is of that original configuration. At some time in it’s life the bus has been repainted and reupholstered. This is perfect for any collector to bookend their collection with, any museum, or those active in parades.
