can be considered that Grail, if you’re not scared off by the lack of
power windows. In the day of 1,000 horsepower supercars, 200 horsepower
may not scream ‘high performance,’ but the engineers at Lotus
have certainly applied the track to this street racer. Case in point: the
oft-forgotten, but always key, weight figures. Weighing in at a mere
1,900 pounds, 217 horsepower is more than enough. The compact roadster has none
of the electronic ‘nanny aids’ that we’ve come to expect in this day and
age. But that isn’t a bad thing; I always turn them off anyways. So, it
comes as no surprise that the Elise has given me some of my most
enjoyable driving experiences. In a day when luxurious refinements
such as heated seats and GPS navigation are valued at a premium, ‘minimalistic’
may be, to some, a dirty word. I say, ‘Minimalistic, schminimalistic.’
Every time I get out of this sports car, I have the same silly grin my son
has when driving his go-kart.
