Jaguar is a British brand that gained great success after the release of its V8 model. The Jaguar XK8 for sale on dealership lots was a replacement for the XJS in 1996. The new Jaguar was available with one of two V-8s. The XK8 got the naturally-aspirated 290-hp engine and the XKR got the supercharged 370-hp engine. The normal engine was good for an adequate zero-to-60 time of 6.4 seconds while the XKR only needed a brisk 4.9 seconds. Both cars weren’t exactly twisty-lane carvers, though they could handle themselves in longer sweepers. The XK8 has always been available in either coupe or convertible forms.

The first generation was produced from 1996 to 2006. The car came in a couple different variations to keep the car interesting and the sales hot. The XKR Silverstone used the supercharged version of the XK8 but with silver paint and an improved suspension, transmission, and brakes for better performance. The XKR Portfolio was available in convertible only and came with different paint. As the car grew into its latter years, the XK8 and XKR soon began to fall by the wayside, as competition surpassed it in terms of both performance and comfort.

The XK8 is clearly designed by the man behind the Aston Martin DB7 and Vanquish, Ian Callum. It resembles the others cars at nearly every angle. Despite looking like those cars, the Jag is nearly half the cost of the Astons. Although a new model was offered in 2007, the new XK8 still shared much of the basic look and switch gear with the first-generation car.

The XK8 became the XK in 2007. Besides being redesigned, the 4.0-liter engine grew to 4.2-liters and made a bit more power. In 2010, a 5.0-liter engine was introduced and was available in non-supercharged and supercharged forms—that made much more power.
