The Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H for sale is a modern version of the legendary high-performance “rent-a-racer” offered to Hertz rental car customers in 1966. In 1966, Ford partnered with Hertz and Shelby American to build 1,000 custom race cars, known as the original Shelby GT-H. Hertz and Ford continued the tradition with 40th and 50th-anniversary editions in 2006 and 2016, offering the 2016 Shelby GT-H in distinctive black paint with gold Le Mans-style and rocker stripes that coordinate with the Hertz brand’s signature colors. Shelby Carrol himself, the man who developed the original partnership idea purchased on of the original Hertz Mustangs for his collection.

The 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H for sale is available as a coupe or convertible in white with gold embellishments as well. The rear-wheel-drive 2016 Shelby GT-H sports a powerful 5.0L Coyote V-8 engine with either a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. The 2016 Hertz Mustang was only available as a 2-door fastback coupe. The GT-H looks similar to the Mustang GT, only with a few custom touches, including signature headrests, floor mats, sill plates, logos, and numbered plaques.

The Hertz Shelby Mustang for sale also includes the Ford performance handling package with custom-tuned dampers, springs and sway bars for a race-like driving experience. The GT-H has a special Shelby-designed vented hood, a carbon fiber front splitter, and an aggressive rear spoiler. Shelby GT-H specs also call for a Cat-Back exhaust with chrome tips that yields throaty, menacing engine noise. Shelby-spec 20” staggered wheels with matte black or gold rims round out the look.

The original 1966 Hertz Mustang was incredibly popular. People would rent the sports car for the weekend, take it the track and return it to the rental car counter. When they were ready to be taken out of rental circulation, used Shelby GT-H was returned to Ford for refurbishing before being sold to collectors. Some of the cars were returned with marks that would indicate renters had welded roll cages for the full track experience over the weekend and then removed them before returning the car

The Hertz Shelby is one of 140 built for Hertz’s 2016 Adrenaline collection of luxury and specialty vehicles, and only 500 GT-H were commissioned in 2006 for the 40th anniversary. Thanks to premium finishes on a high-performance vehicle and its rare, collectible nature, these powerful, unique cars command a high price.
