From then until 2020 the Ferrari was retained by owners in Germany.rnrnIn March 2020, the Ferrari was acquired by its consigning owner, who took the car to the Middle East. Later that year, in December, the Dino was awarded Ferrari Classiche certification and the car is offered for sale with its coveted Red Book. Alexander Calder duly obliged, alongside Walter Maurer, to design the colourful 3.0 CSL that Poulain campaigned in the 1975 edition of Le Mans. More ambitious projects followed, with Maurer taking a leading role in Art Car projects involving works by Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, and Ernst Fuchs-though the M1 painted by Andy Warhol in 1979 stole the limelight. The American artist's work is said to have taken just 28 minutes and the Warhol-styled M1 was driven by Poulain (alongside Marcel Mignot and Manfred Winkelhock) in that year's Le Mans, finishing 6th overall. rnrnWhile the M1 Art Car made headlines at Le Mans, Maurer's involvement with BMW continued with commissions for custom paint job designs. These extended to those worn by the M1 Procars, though it is thought that only one road car would bear a design from the German artist-the example offered here, chassis *number in the description*. rnrnCompleted by the factory in White over a Black interior, the M1 finished its first phase of production in Italy on 21 September 1979, then was marked complete by Baur on 9 November. Very soon after its production date, the BMW was given the 'Exclusiv' finish by Maurer that it still wears to this day. Gaining a refinished Pearl White base coat, which the car wears on its front lip, sides, and rear haunches, the M1 wears a notably darker shade of grey airbrushed on its bonnet, engine cover, and roof, which serve to accentuate the M1's sharp profile. The all-white wheels are complemented by several black details around the body, while the M1 bears Maurer's signature underneath the right rear light cluster. The BMW is accompanied by a copy of a letter by Maurer, who recounts imagining the car's unique design with its first owner. The finish was achieved while the M1 was still relatively new, thought to have covered around 200 kilometres at the time. rnrnThe car's first owner was Mr Curt Soldan, a member of the family behind the Dr C Soldan confectionary and cough drop manufacturing business based in Nuremburg, Germany. It is believed that Mr Soldan retained the BMW for 10 years, and by July 1989 the M1 was registered in the United Kingdom. Here, the car had three owners over a 20-year period, prior to returning to Germany in 2009. The M1 entered The Munich Masterpieces Collection later that year and has been used sparingly, with its odometer reading just 33,862 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. Disc brakes all round, meanwhile, made the 225 km/h DB4 the first production car capable of 0-160-0 km/h in under 30 seconds.rnrnA 1961 Series III, chassis DB4/654/L was acquired by its first owner, Mr Hugh A. Mann, via Plimley Motors of Vancouver, Canada. Specified in Desert White with Red hide, whitewall tyres, 3.54:1 differential, and a Motorola radio, the car was immediately pressed into service-covering 6,203 miles in the first six weeks, and 19,575 by November 1962. In spite of this intensive early use, however, at some point the DB4 appears to have been laid up, and is offered in tantalising as-found condition. The Aston Martin retains its matching-numbers engine. rnrnIt is not known when the DB4 was last driven-and so it will need to be inspected prior to being driven-but the windscreen displays 1970s parking permits, while the Dunlop Formula 70 tyres are in keeping with the same era. The timeworn interior begs to be carefully rescued rather than replaced. Fast, expensive, and beautiful, the 3,670-cc coupe was among the most glamorous cars of its era. Testing, however, had perhaps been lacking, and owners were soon complaining of overheating and wind noise. To counter criticism, in 1960 the Series II made its debut-key differences including a larger 17-pint sump, uprated oil pump, and a radiator blind. There were also revised brakes, proper window frames, and the bonnet hinges were moved to the front. The result was a demonstrably better machine.rnrnHaving purchased a DB2 drophead in 1952, newspaper publisher Herbert Turner Matson of Victoria, Canada, was clearly an Aston Martin fan, and in March 1961 took delivery of chassis DB4/521. Supplied by Plimley Motors of Vancouver, the Goodwood Green Series II was specified with a high-ratio axle, chrome wheels, whitewall tyres, and Marchal fog lamps. The interior was finished in Fawn, and complemented by a Motorola radio. Unfortunately, little else is known of the DB4's provenance, the first owner having passed away in 1969. In recent times, however, this aristocratic machine has resided in Kuwait, and was at some point repainted and retrimmed-the black leather having now acquired a lovely patina. A larger bore stretched the straight-six to 3,995-cc, while the triple-SU carburettors, 15-inch wheels, and Girling disc brakes were borrowed from the outgoing DB4 Vantage. Developing 285 PS, the uprated engine was usually mated to a fully synchromesh ZF five-speed transmission. rnrnPurchased through J Blake of Bold Street, Liverpool, this DB5 left the factory on 16 April 1965. Finished in Dubonnet (an attractive hue it still wears), the Aston Martin was equipped with chrome wheels, a heated rear window, and Motorola radio with electric aerial. The history file reveals that by 1971 the car had covered 57,067 miles, while further research suggests it may have spent time in Scandinavia and North America. More recently, this Aston Martin is known to have resided in the Middle East. The DB5 wears an older restoration yet will require mechanical inspection prior to being driven again. Having been repainted black, this car next changed hands in early 1981, when it was purchased by Mr Keith Brown of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. rnrnThe Aumann Collection bought the DB5 in August 2018 and had it imported to Germany before the exterior was changed to the current classic Silver Birch hue. Notably, DB5/2072/L retains its matching-numbers 3,995-cc straight-six engine, which is rated at 290 PS and paired with a five-speed manual ZF transmission. Yet the Silver Arrows, led by manager Alfred Neubauer, would not be ready for the Formula 1 grid until 1954. As such, it was via sportscar racing that the marque dipped its toe back into motorsport. The car for the job was the W194, designed by Rudolf Uhlenhaut. A new lattice chassis made up of thin, welded steel tubing helped the lightweight challenger earn 2nd and 4th on its competitive debut in the 1952 Mille Miglia. Then came an astonishing 1-2 finish at Le Mans, the Nurburgring, in the Carrera Panamericana, plus a podium clean sweep at Bern. rnrnAs the trophies flooded in, Mercedes-Benz's official New York importer, Max Hoffman, spotted a gap in the North American automotive market. He lobbied the manufacturer to build a road-going counterpart to the W194, which resulted in the 300 SL Gullwing. Fitted with a 2,996-cc, overhead camshaft straight-six fed by mechanical Bosch fuel injection, it sent 215 PS to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. Capable of a 263 km/h top speed, the Gullwing is considered by many to be the first modern supercar.rnrnProduction ran between August 1954 and 1957. The example offered here was completed on 8 March 1955, according to a copy of the factory build sheet. The exterior was finished in the signature 300 SL shade of Silver Grey Metallic while special-order Red leather was specified for the cabin. This car, chassis *number in the description*, gained further options including a Becker radio and a set of knock-off Rudge wheels. Four days later, rather fittingly, it was shipped to Hoffman's own Mercedes-Benz Distributors of New York.rnrnChassis *number in the description* resided in neighbouring Massachusetts, where it was owned by Mr Peter Turchon Jr of Sherborn, per Eric Le Moine's 300 SL registry. Subsequently, the Gullwing joined The Aumann Collection in 1992. Based in Babenhausen, the consignor returned the coupe to its home country and registered it in September of that year. rnrnOffered in the factory colour combination, this car notably retains its matching-numbers chassis, body, and engine, gearbox, kingpins, and rear axle. This customising concern, run by engineer Chris Hahn, offered its wealthy customers almost anything they desired. Requests ranged from gold-plating to substantial body rebuilds, with regular customers including rich sheikhs, celebrities of the Western world, and world leaders. rnrnSGS made its name converting W126- and C126-series Mercedes-Benz models. Among its most memorable offerings was the four-seater Marbella convertible-based on the SEC-though the real head turner was its 500 SEC 'Gullwing'. The example offered here is the latter, thought to have been converted in May 1984. At this point it received substantial strengthening to its roof and sills-to accommodate the famous upswept door design-a conversion that doubled its already substantial list price of 83,000 Deutsche Mark.rnrnThis striking 500 SEC is known to have been taken to the United States by Selections Import and later registered to a Ferrari collector residing in Oakland, California. The car was later returned to its native Germany by its consigning owner in March 2010, and has since been maintained chiefly by Mercedes-Benz specialist Autohaus Weicker GmbH. The history file shows numerous invoices dated between 2010 to 2015, with a ?5,848 overhaul of the door hydraulics and a further ?1,132 heater and washer system restoration standing out. They took inspiration from the GT3 race car and allowed its technology to trickle down. Accordingly, 70 kilograms was stripped out and the red line of the 6.2-litre V-8 raised to 8,000 rpm to in turn find an additional 60 PS. This created what was, at the time, the most powerful naturally aspirated eight-cylinder production car engine in the world. rnrnThe example offered here was originally delivered on 4 February 2013. Instead of making its way immediately into private ownership, this car was retained by Daimler AG. Supplied as a demonstrator vehicle, it was accordingly very generously specified to entice prospective customers. New regulations mandated rear-wheel-drive, tubular-framed silhouette cars powered by 4.0-litre V-8 engines but outlawed the costly hi-tech driver aids that led to the downfall of the previous incarnation of the series. The Championship was due to be contested across nine race weekends with each comprising two 100-kilometre races of equal points-scoring value.rnrnMercedes-Benz and Opel lent the series welcome manufacturer support and the former campaigned its CLK-DTM model, while Opel entered its V-8-powered Astra DTM coupe. In contrast, Audi was represented only in a semi-official capacity. The Abt Sportsline team-who won the Super Tourenwagen Cup for Audi in 1999-entered four TT-Rs for Laurent Aiello, Kris Nissen, James Thompson, and team co-owner Christian Abt (with Roland Asch competing in a single round). The TT-R featured a tubular frame and integrated roll cage produced by the British Foss-tech concern, while its 460 PS V-8 engine was supplied by Heini Mader, and its six-speed sequential gearbox by Xtrac. rnrnThe first half of the season proved challenging, with five non-starts and 10 race retirements blunting Abt's assault. However, team leader Aiello-at the wheel of the car offered here, which raced under the number 9-produced a solid performance at the Nurburgring in August to finish 11th, just missing out on a solitary Championship point. rnrnAn inspired drive by the Frenchman in the first race at Oschersleben in September ended with him finishing 5th, after qualifying only 18th, while a return to the Nurburgring in October yielded a double-points-paying finish, with 9th in the first race and 7th in the second. At the season's end, Aiello finished as the top Audi racer, just one point behind former Formula 1 driver Stefano Modena's Opel and five adrift of Mercedes-mounted former McLaren test driver Darren Turner.rnrnIn 2001, chassis TT-R 00.01 was sold to a German collector who retained it until 2010. Subsequently passing into Italian ownership, a rebuild was embarked upon in 2020, which included overhauling the engine and gearbox. Following some 180 kilometres of testing, the car passed into the present ownership in 2022. According to the vendor, a mere 300 kilometres of additional testing has been covered since, reportedly between the consigning owner and the 2001 FIA GT champion, Jean-Philippe Belloc. rnrnToday, the TT-R remains a spectacular example of this most distinctive and idiosyncratic of DTM contenders. Dubbed the Mistral, this new two-seat coupe was named after the strong winds blowing from the Mediterranean coast in the south of France. Introduced in 1963, the model's success was instant and thanks to a steady flow of orders, the Mistral remained in production until 1970. Over the course of production, both the Mistral Coupe and Spider were built with different engine options. Only 383 Coupes were built with the 3.7-litre engine, and the Mistral presented here is one such example.rnrnBuilt in the first half of 1964, this Mistral 3.7 Coupe was registered in Italy on 23 August 1964. While most of its early life is unknown, by the 1990s the car had entered an Italian collection. Acquired by the previous owner in April 2010, this Mistral remained in their care for a decade, after which the consigning owner purchased the car as a restoration project. rnrnThe work was carried out by Dragon Classiche in Dubai, who performed a no-expenses-spared restoration. The red paint it had last been finished in was stripped off, and with the body prepared, the factory-correct colour of Argento Auteuil Metalizzato was applied. The entire drivetrain and suspension systems were fully rebuilt and the interior trimmed in the correct colour leather. This nut and bolt restoration was completed in 2024; invoices on file total more than $65,000 in just parts alone, while the complete workshop bill came to $60,000.rnrnArguably one of the finer examples of the Maserati Mistral available on the open market, this Italian delivery example retains its matching-numbers engine and awaits its next chapter with a new owner. Based on the Murcielago LP640-4, the model's striking new exterior and interior design was inspired by fifth-generation fighter aircraft. Production was limited to just 20 Coupes and approximately 15 Roadsters. Aside from launching a bona fide poster star, Lamborghini also kick-started a trend among its fellow supercar makers. Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin, and others would all, in time, release special editions for which the recipe involved dramatically reclothing their flagship offerings.rnrnGiven the highly successful formula, Lamborghini saw fit to give the succeeding Aventador a makeover of its own to celebrate 100 years since the birth of company founder, Ferrucio Lamborghini. In 2016, the firm launched the aptly named Centenario. Then, during that year's Monterey Car Week in California, the Centenario Roadster was shown to the world.rnrnThe new model brought with it a new design direction. In contrast to the limited-run Veneno, the Centenario featured much cleaner surfacing for its carbon fibre panels. Testament to this, the rear wing was not a permanent fixture but instead retracted into the bodywork. Similarly, Lamborghini sought to remove any rear bumper to accentuate the diffuser and leave dramatic cut-outs that exposed the tyres. Naturally, the car was still an exercise in aerodynamics. The front gained double splitters, while bespoke fins on the wheels worked to extract hot air from the carbon ceramic brakes.rnrnBy utilising an upgraded version of the Aventador's statement 6.5-litre, naturally aspirated V-12, the Centenario was the most powerful Lamborghini road car in history at the time of its launch. The engine produced 759 horsepower, which was transmitted through a seven-speed automated manual transmission and four-wheel drive to achieve a 2.8-second launch from 0 to 100 km/h. The top speed was rated at 350 km/h.rnrnJust 40 examples of the Centenario were built, split equally between the Coupe version and the Roadster. The 2017 model year example offered here was supplied new to Japan for the owner of the country's largest Lamborghini dealer. It has been kept in Tokyo as part of their private collection ever since. The odometer remarkably displays only 163 kilometres from new at the time of cataloguing. First, McLaren became only the third manufacturer to win on its Circuit de la Sarthe debut. Second, McLaren was the first constructor ever to complete the so-called motorsport 'Triple Crown' by adding to its wins in the Indianapolis 500 and Monaco Grand Prix. Third, nearly three decades later, the F1 GTR remains the last road-based car to triumph outright in the world's greatest endurance race.rnrnGiven the scale of those accomplishments, McLaren duly commissioned a road-going version of the GTR racers that finished 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 13th in France. These were known as F1 LMs. Including the famous XP1 prototype that has remained under McLaren ownership ever since and is proudly on display at the firm's Technology Centre headquarters, just six chassis were built. Each gained the competition car's retuned engine, and no fewer than three were ordered new by the Sultan of Brunei.rnrnWhen the time came in 2020 to honour the silver anniversary of that remarkable Le Mans win, the marque was inspired to follow a similar recipe. While the 'standard', downforce-obsessed Senna supercar hardly wanted for performance, that did not stop McLaren Special Operations from taking the 4-litre, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine from the track-only GTR variant and placing it into the car to create the ultimate road-legal evolution: the Senna LM. The polished motor was equipped with new cylinder heads to gain 25 horsepower for a total of 814, which was transmitted to the rear wheels only via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.rnrnIn keeping with the look of the F1 GTR and LM, these exclusive Senna models gained five-spoke, centre-locking, forged aluminium wheels by original supplier OZ Racing. To further evoke its celebrated predecessor, the engine bay was lined with 24-carat gold heat shielding. New louvres on the front wings featured alongside a rear wing that gained LM logos etched into the carbon fibre tips. Meanwhile, the suspension wishbones were painted gold to match the callipers for the carbon-ceramic brakes, and the new quad-pipe exhaust finishers.rnrnThe interior was also treated to an array of changes. The Alcantara upholstery for the carbon fibre bucket seats was made to match the paintwork in Papaya Orange. So too was the centre mark and stitching on the steering wheel, door pull straps, plus door struts. The LM logo was embroidered into the headrests, embossed in the carpets, and featured on the gold-coloured titanium nitride pedals. rnrnMcLaren Special Operations built just 20 Senna LMs, of which seven were finished in the historic shade of Papaya Orange to match the best-known F1 LM of them all, XP1. The example here is one of those select few cars and was ordered from new by its one and only owner to join a collection in the South Korean capital city of Seoul. The car has been driven sparingly since; the odometer within the theatrical rotating instrument display showed just 1,024 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. rnrnGiven the incredible rarity of the Senna LM in any form, let alone a Papaya Orange car such as this, the opportunity to acquire an example seldom presents itself. Housing a 7-litre V-12 engine, the glorious XJR-9 prototype knocked Porsche off its perch to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1988 during the heyday of the Group C era. Given these high-profile successes it was, therefore, obvious who the marque should turn to when creating a halo supercar.rnrnThe concept for the XJ220, named in deference of the projected top speed, took after the triumphant XJR-9 racer as a naturally aspirated 6.2-litre 12-cylinder powerplant was planned. But a long gestation period and more stringent emissions regulations meant the 281 examples eventually gained a 3.5-litre, twin-turbocharged V-6 related to the motor from the MG Metro 6R4 Group B rally weapon. Nevertheless, as TWR and Jaguar combined to form JaguarSport, the resulting effort still vanquished the best that Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche had to offer. With the rev limiter raised and Works driver Martin Brundle at the wheel, the XJ220 recorded 349.4 km/h at the Nardo Ring in Italy to become the world's fastest production car.rnrnThe example offered here was completed by JaguarSport on 31 March 1993 configured in the signature XJ220 shade of Spa Silver to complement a Smoke Grey leather interior. Although holding a 10 June delivery date, it would be another four years before the car was purchased via UK dealer William Loughran of Preston by the first owner, who registered it on 18 August 1997. Soon after, it paid a visit to pre-eminent XJ220 expert Don Law Racing, near Newcastle in the United Kingdom, to be fitted with a sports exhaust and upgraded brakes. rnrnThe car was auctioned at RM Sotheby's London sale in October 2008. After a spell in Russia, the Jaguar moved to the United Arab Emirates in late 2023. It benefits from an August 2024 visit to Dragon Racing International of Dubai, where a recommissioning service was completed at a cost of 103,615 AED. Please note that the odometer has recently been repaired by Don Law Racing (invoice available to view on file), with the car noted as having covered 5,679 kilometres. rnrnThis XJ220 is accompanied by a tool kit, first aid kit, and a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (JDHT) certificate. To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' Dubai event, 1 December 2024. rnOffered Without Reserve | $270,000 - $325,000 USD rnrnLamborghini's highly stylish 2+2 grand tourer; a symbol of 1960s automotive designrnOne of just 224 examples of the 400 GT 2+2 made between 1966 and 1968rnPowered by a 3.9-litre V-12 engine, coupled with a five-speed manual gearboxrnDelivered new to California with later known ownership in Germany and the Middle East, prior to being acquired by the consigning owner in 2022 rn rnrnIn 1966, Lamborghini introduced the updated 400 GT, which retained the same wheelbase as the earlier 350 GT but featured an enlarged 3.9-litre version of the V-12 engine, thereby increasing power from 270 to 320 horsepower. Although a handful of early 350 GTs had featured a novel 2+1 seating pattern, the majority were configured in regular two-seater form. However, ever mindful of the benefits of broadening the appeal of its cars, Lamborghini-after producing just 24 examples of the two-seat 400 GT-opted to further modify its derivative into the 400 GT 2+2, with the latter being publicly unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in March 1966.rnrnThe 400 GT 2+2 benefitted from greater cabin space compared to the earlier car, further to important cosmetic and ergonomic changes; a larger rear luggage compartment, increased fuel capacity, quadruple headlamps, and revised lower front valance being notable examples. However, it was arguably in its transmission that the greatest technical improvement was made; the somewhat recalcitrant ZF gearbox of the 350 and 400 GTs was replaced in the 2+2 by a much smoother and quieter five-speed all-syncromesh unit of Lamborghini's own manufacture.rnrnCritically, as well as offering enhanced practicality, the 400 GT 2+2 retained the impressive performance of its two antecedents, with 100 km/h being achieved in 5.7 seconds en route to a top speed of some 248 km/h. Indeed, so impressed were Autocar journalists that they were moved to laud it as 'better than all the equivalent exotic and home-bred machinery in this glamorous corner of the fast-car market'.rnrnThe example offered here, chassis 0643, left the factory finished in Grigio St. Vincent over a Tabacco interior and was sent to its first owner, Bob Estes of California, USA, on 12 September 1966. In October 1969, the Lamborghini was sold to Dr R. Marshall, also of California, and the 400 GT 2+2 later formed part of a car collection until 1992, when it was sold at auction in Germany. Later coming into ownership in the Middle East, in February 2022 the Lamborghini was bought by its consigning owner at a Paris auction, at which point it was finished in the silver over black colour combination it is shown in today. rnrnAs per the accompanying condition photos, the Lamborghini shows cosmetic blemishes and would benefit from recommissioning work to return to a good standard. It is also recommended that the car is mechanically inspected prior to being driven.
