Mike Sandone’s North America Overland skunkworks has solved the riddle to eliminating the crudeness of our beloved 60+ year old Series trucks, yet retaining all of the wonderful aesthetic charm that makes us so smitten in the first place.  And while we’ve all heard the term “nut and bolt restoration,” that is exactly the NAO process – every nut, bolt, trim piece, widget, and component is either new or renewed.  And along the way, NAO seamlessly updates the systems that can aggravate us in these six decades old trucks.

Our Marine Blue IIA 109 soft top shown here was completed in the NAO workshops in 2023, has just 350 test miles since completion, and is fitted with its totally rebuilt 2.25 litre gas engine, 5 speed manual transmission, seating for 8, and a fully removable canvas top with windows and roll-up sides.  Among the restoration highlights are:  galvanized chassis and related trim bits, electronic fuel injection, Defender 5 speed manual transmission, Defender heated front seats, 6 rear side facing seats with retractable seat belts, disc brakes, stainless steel exhaust system, aluminum radiator, stainless steel gas tank, and much, much, much more.  We’re happy to email the build sheet that recaps in detail the entire restoration.  And the 109 the ideal aesthetic with its coveted inside headlight configuration, and proper “breakfast” grille.  &#40;IYKYK&#41;

1969 Mercedes Benz 280SE cabriolet, S/N 11102512002499, 462H Tunis Beige metallic with 244 green leather, green rugs, and 747 green convertible top, 2.8 litre in-line 6 cylinder fuel injected engine, 4 speed column shift automatic transmission, disc brakes, seating for 5, Becker Europa stereo with power antenna, factory power windows, burl walnut dash, European headlights, delivered new to Atlas Auto Leasing Company of Los Angeles, May 15, 1969 via Mercedes Benz of Hollywood, 6465 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, California, sold in 1974 to the second owner, a Mrs. Margaret Kearns Cox, of Sherman Oaks, California, who would go onto own the Tunis Beige cabriolet for the next 40 years, until selling to just the third owner who would embark on an all-encompassing “nut and bolt” restoration, with all systems and components, renewed, refinished, or rebuilt – engine, transmission, lines, hoses, brakes, suspension, paint, chrome, wood, and more, all the while retaining the luscious original leather seat upholstery, and making for an absolutely spectacular visual presentation and driving experience.

1973 Ford Bronco Baja Bronco by Stroppe, S/N# U15GLR80665, Special Stroppe paint, poppy red bottom, white mid-section and blue top.  302 V8 with automatic transmission.  Baja Broncos were made from 1971 to 1975 and total production guess is ~450 units.  This Baja Bronco has its original MSRP and comes with a Marti report stating that this is one of 115 for model year ’73.  Bill Stroppe was the Carrol Shelby for Ford’s 4×4 and off-road division.  Made famous with Big ‘Oly with wins at the Baja 1000, Stroppe became the “buildsheet” customizer for Ford…you could walk into a dealership and check a box and get one of these…this truck was ordered by Ziems Motor Co. in Farmington, NM (the authorized Ford dealer there).  Once Ford built it (on June 12, 1973) it was then transported to Stroppe’s shop in Long Beach, CA for modification.  They redid the suspension, added flares, a Stroppe designed roll bar, steering wheel, graphics and more…this truck also has the extra option of the aptly named “Cactus Smasher” front bumper pusher.  The total MSRP was $5,177 and most of these trucks didn’t survive.  Early 70’s Broncos are very popular and sought after (Big ‘Oly sold for almost $2MM recently) and many are getting resto-modded…this Baja Bronco is just like it was when it left Bill Stroppe’s shop and is an important piece of Ford’s history, 4×4 history and a time when “tuners” were embraced by the factory to design and build something they couldn’t…simpler, cooler times indeed.  Comes with framed MSRP and Marti report.
