Released for model year 1992, the first-generation Dodge Viper packaged power and handling like few before it. Influences on the new car’s design read more akin to an auto industry Hall of Fame roster. At a pivotal moment for Chrysler—then in control of Lamborghini and poised to plan products for the 20th century’s twilight, the Viper set sights on shock and awe with novel composite bodywork and tubular space frame architecture. Replete with a high-displacement aluminum powerplant, dramatic styling, and manual transmission-only enthusiast credentials, Dodge made its mark.    

The Viper’s first facelift—dubbed SRII, arrived throughout 1996 with iterative improvements. Tri-spoke wheels were traded for a contemporary 5-spoke design and rear center exhaust replaced the original’s side-exit system. Most notably, the GTS coupe joined Dodge’s lineup—carrying 450 hp/490lb-ft torque and ample creature comforts sorely missed in the formerly roadster-only platform. Less obvious updates targeted weight savings, stiffened suspension with revised geometry, and higher capacity engine cooling. Crossover between early models and those receiving gradual updates characterized the Viper’s truly low-volume hero car status.

Finished in Viper Red over Cognac leather, this 2001 Dodge Viper GTS is all go. A remarkable addition to any enthusiast’s collection, this example arrives tastefully modified and well-kept. The air-conditioned cabin tallies of-the-era comforts including a leather-wrapped steering wheel, handbrake, and shift knob, plus Alpine AM/FM/CD audio. Projector headlights and a seat-lowering kit boost appeal from the driver’s seat, facing a focused suite of analog gauges including a 200mph speedometer and 7k-rpm tach. This Viper’s 8.0L motivation benefits from an aftermarket air intake and long-tube header exhaust system w/high-flow catalytic converters. Power is delivered via six-speed manual shifting and a limited-slip differential with upgraded 3.73:1 gearing. Coilover suspension and Forgestar 19” wheels wrapped in Nitto Invo tires sit over four-corner ventilated disc brakes w/ABS, guaranteeing planted stopping power. Showing an odometer reading of just 11k miles, this stunning Viper GTS is sold with a clean Title, Carfax report, and third-party Inspection Report.
