1960 Chevrolet Corvette â VIN Sequence 0002: A Rare Test Legend This second-off-the-line 1960 Corvette is no ordinary classic-it's a pilot car believed to have tested GM's experimental aluminum heads with Rochester fuel injection. Built in September 1959 at St. Louis, this fuelie rarity sports a 283 V8 with lightweight heads that never hit production, a project tied to Zora Arkus-Duntov's performance vision. After component testing, GM sold it to Rochester Products engineer Bill Anderson in Rochester, New York, home of the Ramjet fuel injection system. In 1970, 16-year-old Dana Kuhl snagged it on his birthday for $900, making it a teenage dream turned automotive treasure, this gem stands as a possible missing link in Corvette's racing and engineering legacy. There's something fantastic about having a car from very early in a series, and this 1960 Corvette is just that. Bearing Serial No. 2, this Corvette comes with the original frame with chassis number present. A fuelie car, the CZ-suffix 283/315 HP V-8 is equipped with a Rochester fuel-injection unit (Serial No. 1006, Part No. *number in the description*), a 4-speed manual transmission, finned valve covers and a 7,000 RPM tachometer. It also has aluminum heads, which were not made readily available, making this machine an even more unique discovery. After a comprehensive restoration, the Corvette has only traveled about 5 miles and is presented in Ermine White with a white soft top and red interior. Options include a heater, a defroster, a clock and a radio, while small-diameter, chrome cross-flag hubcaps adorn color-matched steel wheels outside. The 1960 model year would be the last time the tail lights would be spear shaped; four circles replaced them in 1961, a trend that would sustain through today. Corvettes were also available with fuel-injected engines, though all had to be equipped with manual transmissions, which might have something to do with the re-engineered 283 powerplant. Equipped with solid lifters and a higher compression ratio of 11.0:1, two fuel-injected engines were available, one with 315 HP and the other with 275 HP. Aluminum radiators helped compensate for Corvettes equipped with the Duntov Cam, and aluminum clutch housings for manual transmission cars helped reduce weight. Engineers also opted for stiffer anti-sway bars front and rear, as well as additional wheel travel to improve ride comfort. Interestingly, with all this performance engineering going on, Corvette won its class at Le Mans in 1960, the first time a Corvette raced on that legendary circuit.

The goal of this build is to provide a driving experience on par with the best modern machinery. To accomplish this, the car is built on a monocoque chassis with a custom made square tube frame. It utilizes a C6 suspension with adjustable coilover shocks and adjustable titanium springs, and the chassis is dropped 3 inches. Z06 brakes also contribute to the car's outstanding control characteristics. The car is corner balanced with ideal 50/50 weight distribution. The state-of-the art drive train begins with a 6.2L LS3 naturally aspirated V8 engine fortified with ported aluminum heads and a COMP cam. Ceramic-coated headers empty into a 3' Magnaflow exhaust system with crossover and quad outlets. The result is a robust yet driveable and reliable 560 estimated horsepower at the crankshaft. The ample power is transmitted through a torque tube rear mounted transaxle consisting of a C6 6-speed automatic transmission with a 3200 stall converter. The Corvette's body was extensively modified while retaining its classic character. It was widened a full eleven inches, with 4 inches of length added at the doors. The increased dimensions allow even a larger driver to enjoy the ride in comfort. The nose was dropped two inches, and the C1 windshield was dropped and subtly tilted. A custom mix color the builder calls 'Chocolate Black' coats the body with a deep mirror-like luster. All the comforts one would expect in a modern premium vehicle, including air conditioning and a Bose sound system, are housed in a custom genuine leather interior. Real rollover protection is afforded by Audi TT roll bars that can be removed for display. Staggered sized Cooper ultra performance tires, 275/35R18 front and 325/30R19 rear, are mounted on blacked out Z06 alloy wheels. The ground-up build has been driven just 466 test miles and was a feature car in Corvette Magazine. The car is finished in Maroon over black leather upholstery and is powered by a 283ci V8 paired with a replacement four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a Blackc onvertible soft top, 15â³ steel wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, an independent rear suspension, a heater and defroster, and a push-button AM radio. Work in preparation for the sale reportedly included fluid changes, rebuilding the carburetor, and replacing the tires, valve cover gaskets, and thermostat housing gaskets.The cabin features two bucket seats that have been re-trimmed in black leather and are joined by a color-coordinated dashboard topper and door panels. Appointments include a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a heater and defroster, lap belts, polished sill plates, an analog clock, and a Wonder Bar push-button AM radio. The battery has been relocated to the trunk, which also contains a battery cut-off switch and tender wire, a space-saver spare tire, and an electric windshield washing system.The three-spoke steering wheel frames a sweeping 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, amperage, oil pressure, and fuel level. Power is distributed through a four-speed manual transmission and a solid rear axle.
