*1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28*In September 1966 Chevrolet released the Camaro as direct competition for the exceptionally popular Ford Mustang which went on sale a year and a half before. Unlike the Mustang though, right out of the gate Chevrolet outfitted the Camaro with some truly potent engines and a great chassis underneath which even made a pretty standard Camaro a respectable performer on the track. But for the true driving enthusiast, there was only one option in the Camaro lineup - the Z/28. Conceived by GM performance legend Vince Piggins, the Z/28 was designed as a direct competitor to the Mustang Boss 302 in the SCCA Trans Am series with just minor modifications.This 1968 Camaro Z/28 was sold new at Sellman Chevrolet in Orange, CA and remained in the hands of the original owner for 29 years. The car has been under the care of the consignor since 2012, and remains in very good condition throughout. Finished in LeMans Blue with White Stripes, this Z/28 sits on a 15-inch set of Rallye wheels with period-appropriate redline tires and a matching spare in the trunk. The car is fitted with a cowl hood as well as a lower front spoiler and a decklid spoiler that were designed to be used on the competition models.The inside is fitted with a pair of bucket seats with a center console separating them and a rear bench. The three spoke steering wheel frames a speedometer and tic-toc tachometer with the Z/28 appropriate 6,500 rpm redline. On the center console, the car is fitted with a four-pack of auxiliary gauges in what became one of Camaro's most defining interior styling elements.Sitting under the hood is a numbers matching 302ci V8 that is rated from the factory at 290 horsepower and 290lb-ft of torque. It was rebuilt by Nelson Automotive in Portland, OR in 2009 and has seen minimal use since. Although not the most powerful engine from a numbers perspective, what made the Z/28 special was this engine's short stroke, aluminum intake manifold and solid lifters to make it rev. Notoriously, with just a few simple modifications it could become a full-on race motor. In this car, the engine is backed by a Muncie M21 4-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels via a 12-bolt rear end with 3.73 gears. To make the car more pleasant to drive, it is fitted with both power steering and power disc brakes.To anybody that knows muscle cars, Z/28 means performance. This 1980 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 takes the bold looks of a speedy Z-car and backs it up with a strong running V8 and transmission combo.  Plus, all the other investments inside and out create one of the most appealing driver packages around.  There's a mean style that comes on a car with such a dark blue that it almost looks black in some lights. And the triple-blue stripe package is a well-coordinated piece for this total package.  It sets the tone right for a proper Z/28.  Plus, you have the right details, like the chin spoiler that wraps around to the wheel openings, a proper power dome hood, fender vents, and the three-piece spoiler out back.  The overall look of the finish is glossy and fun for a driver-quality car.  You may want to do some updating on your own time or remove the custom graphics under the rear spoiler. But the reason why there's so much overall appeal is that when you take the time to be thoughtful about a car like this, there are some awesome custom details, too. And while polished pieces are often there to impress, this one has the elements like the fabricated valve covers, upgraded pulleys, and a large aluminum radiator that tell you the shiny pieces also have substance. At the center is a freshly installed 350 cubic-inch V8.  It has been enhanced with an Edelbrock fuel pump, an Assault Racing dual plane aluminum intake, and topped with an Edelbrock AVS2 four-barrel carburetor.  Headers add power while contributing to the rumble of the dual exhaust, and any time you really want to bring the thunder, this has electric cutouts.  It's a powerful car, and so it has a beefed-up TH350 three-speed automatic transmission feeding a 3.73 rear end with Richmond gears and Positraction.  As you look underneath, you'll spot some nice rear upgrades like the thick sway bar and Caltracs traction bars.  And there's also power steering, power brakes, front discs, and a nice set of BF Goodrich T/As on shining Torq Thrust wheels.
