It's luxuries do not outweigh its sporting aspects, however, with Dynamic Damper Control offering three driving modes: SPORT+, SPORT, and COMFORT. These modes customize the shock absorbers' firmness, allowing a drive that feels exactly how its driver is feeling. Let’s talk about power. The M5 is faster than ever before thanks to engine development work, especially on the high volume turbos, and an increase to 560 horsepower and 500 foot-pounds of torque. This is balanced by the dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox that is smooth, quick and adjustable, from the refined road setting to the S3 all-out track mode. Drivability is also a question of balance. In the M5 you get three settings. The most simple allow you to purr around in smooth luxury, while the Sport Plus sets you up for a sportier ride with stiffer suspension, fast engine mapping, and more responsive steering. The way the sport sedan looks is balanced too. It is bigger than ever before but doesn’t look it. For the driver, there is an intelligent blend of the latest technology with simple analog buttons for direct control over unique functions. The M5 achieves its balance as a really fast car with a racing pedigree but with the luxury and style that you demand as an executive on the way to work.
2019 BMW M5 Competition
Based on the standard BMW M5, the M5 Competition is an upgraded model that leads the way to longer-lasting power, a faster acceleration speed, and overall higher quality performance. The M5 Competition encompasses a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that pumps out 17 additional horsepower, taking the overall specs to 617 horsepower, 553 lb-ft of torque and can go from stopped to 60 MPH in nearly 3 seconds flat, at 3.1 seconds. A top speed of 189 MPH is nearly identical to that of the standard M5’s 190 MPH, however, improved suspension, lightweight 20-inch aluminum wheels and an alternate engine mounting all make the 1 MPH decrease in maximum speed well worth it. From the street view, the BMW M5 Competition does not feature any significant alterations to the exterior of the sportscar. Minor changes like new badges and a black kidney grille, rear spoiler, and diffuser and other black accents are the most obvious. Inside, the cockpit is equipped with an improved selection of upholstery colors, 20-way adjustable, vented and massaging sports seats and an aluminum and carbon-fiber trim. As for tech features, most remain the same such as the 10.25 high-definition touchscreen infotainment system and wireless charging, although the M5 Competition does include the new gesture-control feature which was first added to the BMW tech line-up with the most recent 5 Series model automobiles as well as a digital speedometer on the left side of the M-series designed instrument cluster.
In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the BMW M5, the automaker is releasing a limited-edition model with only 350 cars in the production run. Only 10 percent of the cars made will make their way to the United States, but chances are those who are lucky enough to catch a glimpse will know exactly what they are looking at. The metallic gray hue enriched with a silky matte finish hints at the special status of the M5 and it is the only color available for the model. As for performance, everything remains the same as the M5 Competition model. This means the dark beauty comes equipped with 617 horsepower, 553 pound-foot of torque and taps out at an imposing 189 mph. Inside, the M5 gets top-notch treatment. Sport seats are draped in fine Merino leather with contrasting stitching, while a digital gauge cluster is dressed in both carbon fiber and gold anodized aluminum. As it is a special edition model, all the typically optional upgrades such as the BMW’s Executive and M Driver’s packages, are included as standard. This means that all drivers of the M5 35th Anniversary model will be treated to front massage seats, wireless charging, and a full-view camera system. Another popular feature is the all-wheel-drive system, which enables drivers to switch to rear-wheel drive in an instance if desired. The manual transmission from the early years of the M5 continues to be replaced by the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission found in later models. With all the options made available to drivers in this model, drivers have more control than ever.
