The history behind the name Audi is a varied story, and one of collaborative engineering. Its variety is represented in the four rings of the logo, each of which stands for one of the four companies that merged to create the company we know today. Now an Audi for sale is sold worldwide that is respected in the luxury car world.

The first company was Wanderer, created in 1885. In 1899, a man by the name of August Horch created August Horch & Cie. Motorwagenwerke AG. After problems with the Chief Financial Officer, Horch left the company to create another but was unable to use his own name for branding. It was then that the Latin translation of Horch, “Audi,” was introduced by Horch’s son.

The first cars from Audi were created in 1910, not long before the mergers began. In 1921, Audi presented the first production car with left-hand drive, a convertible by the name of the Audi Type K.

By 1932, Wanderer, Horch, Audi, and DKW were all represented by four rings as part of Auto Union AG. The Audi name was not resurrected until 1965 when Volkswagen acquired a 50% stake in the Auto Union. The incentives of owning a new factory in Ingolstadt and trademark rights were too good to pass up. The KDW F102 was fitted with a four-stroke engine that year, and the first official Audi was up for sale.

There are currently 280 Audi dealers and dealerships in North America alone, any of which can assist in the process of finding the perfect new Audi for you. Or, if a certified pre-owned Audi is more appealing, there are special financing options and competitive interest rates to help bring innovative German engineering into your driveway.
