Recently sourced from Japan, The Cultivated Collector's 1993 Honda NSX-R is a prime example of the breed. Finished in the rare shade of Formula Red, chassis 0153 presents in an exceptionally well preserved state today, showing just over 65k KM from new and retains protective plastic covering the door sills. Accompanying the sale of 0153 will be Japanese service records, manual, books and two keys. With recent servicing, 0153 is at the top of its game - eagerly awaiting to devour open stretches of highway or winding country back roads.

In the mid-eighties Honda engineers were experimenting with various engine and chassis layouts in an effort to explore viability for future products. One such experiment saw the Honda engineers take a Honda City, cut it in half, and install the engine behind the driver's seat. Much to the delight of the engineers, after an extensive number of thrilling laps around the parking lot, this unsuspecting test mule led to inspiring the Honda board to decide that they would create a pure sports car, and thus the beginning of the NSX was born. 

Honda would consort with automotive design legends Pininfarina to create a concept car called the Honda Pininfarina Experimental, referred to as HP-X, showcasing Honda’s foray into the mid-engine sports car world. Management at Honda provided lofty goals for the engineering team, simply requesting that this new sports car would need to be as fast as anything from their German and Italian competitors, while offering Honda reliability and a highly competitive price. With this direction, work began on evolving the HP-X concept car into a working prototype that would be referred to as NS-X, standing for “New Sportscar Experimental”, with an intention to showcase numerous automotive technologies that Honda derived from its wealth of knowledge in the Formula 1 world. 

The backbone of success for the NSX would lie in its all-aluminum semi-monocoque, a first for a production car, incorporating a revolutionary extruded aluminum alloy frame and suspension components saving a significant 441lbs over traditional steel construction. Nestled in the middle of the car, just behind the driver and passenger seats, would be the heart of the NSX - Honda’s brand new C30A engine, a 3.0 liter V6 debuting their brand-new proprietary VTEC variable valve timing system. The chassis and powertrain isn’t where the motorsport connection stopped. 

Honda further leaned on their robust motorsports division to aid in developing the NSX into a truly capable track weapon, leveraging the successful hands of 3x Formula 1 World Drivers Champion Ayrton Senna and highly respected Formula 1 driver Satoru Nakajima, with both working tirelessly to fine tune chassis stiffness and suspension characteristics through seemingly endless test sessions at the Suzuka Circuit and the Nurburgring. The end product of this painstakingly thorough test and tuning regime was a chassis stiffness increase of over 50%, while retaining a near minimal impact to overall weight and the cars handling capabilities. 

Released to the public in 1991, the NSX was an immediate sensation with enthusiasts and journalists alike. Car & Driver, after extensive testing, noted “the low, forward, cockpit is exhilarating… like riding in the head of an arrow” and of the car’s responsiveness stated, “it's so precise in its responses, as if it were hard-wired into my cerebellum." Despite the NSX being well received, Honda engineers had to make compromises to meet a healthy balance between daily driveability and raw performance. It was decided that for those customers seeking a truly no-bars-hold racing experience, Honda unleashed to the world in late 1992 the revered NSX Type-R.

Honda engineers began the NSX Type-R development by putting the already svelte NSX on an extremely aggressive diet to aid in weight savings. Sound deadening, the audio system, spare tire, air conditioning system and traction control, along with some of the electrical equipment, were completely removed, while the heavy leather electric seats were replaced with fixed back carbon-kevlar racing seats from Recaro designed specifically for Honda. To reduce unsprung weight, Honda chose to replace the standard forged alloy wheels with lightweight forged aluminum wheels from Enkei. This extreme approach to weight savings saw the NSX Type-R weighing in at an astonishing 265lbs lighter than its standard NSX sibling, for a total weight of 2,710lbs.

Changes didn’t merely stop with weight, however. Honda’s suspension engineers focused on fine tuning the suspension setup to prevent sudden oversteer during high speed cornering, which was extremely rare during normal driving conditions but was more prevalent on track. To remedy this, engineers added one aluminum bracket under the front battery tray, and added one bracket in front of the front radiator to increase chassis rigidity. The entire suspension system was discarded and replaced with a more track oriented unit, featuring a stiffer front sway bar, suspension bushings, coil springs and dampers. Additional changes to the car would see the final drive ratio revised to aid in quicker gear changes, and installation of a higher locking limited slip differential. Meanwhile, the C30A engine would receive additional motorsport love with a blueprinted and balanced crankshaft assembly, utilizing techniques carried over from Honda’s racing car engine build process. 

The reengineering of the NSX into the NSX Type-R resulted in a highly capable track oriented weapon that would be able to keep up with the best of the best from traditional super car marques of the day - all while being financially accessible, and carrying Honda’s legendary reliability characteristics, making for an incredibly alluring package. From 1992 through 1995, Honda would only produce 483 NSX Type-R variants, all of which were sold exclusively to the Japanese domestic market, making the NSX Type-R one of the most sought after and desirable Honda’s to date.

The Cultivated Collector’s 2014 Ferrari 458 Speciale, chassis 03421, was produced in June of 2014 in Maranello, destined to live a wonderful life in the United States. Sold new by the renowned marque specialist Miller Motorcars of Greenwich, CT, 03421 is finished in the stunning, yet mature, shade of Grigio Ferro Metallic and is adorned with Nero Stellato stripes, while the interior is covered in swaths of gray alcantara and the seats receiving red inserts. 

Over the years, 03421 has had just two owners from new, with its most recent caretaker enjoying the car sparingly since 2015. Having covered a scant 2,000 miles, 03421 presents in exceptional and highly original condition today, benefiting greatly from loving long term ownership and consistent servicing. In early May of 2024, servicing at Miller Motorcars included a fresh set of spark plugs.

Oft regarded as the pinnacle of Ferrari’s naturally aspirated V8 lineage, the 458 Speciale is hailed as offering an unparalleled experience as one of the most refined, yet visceral, mid-engined V8 Ferrari’s extant.

Dripping with Ferrari’s latest motorsport technology, the 458 Speciale benefits massively not just from being 200lbs lighter than its standard 458 counterpart, but also from a 35HP increase found through revised ECU mapping, revised combustion chambers, new pistons, shorter intake runners, reshaped intake ports, and higher lift on the exhaust and intake valves, along with a new carbon-fiber manifold and airbox. The results were an astonishing 133HP/liter with total output rated at 597HP.

Building on the stunning lines penned by Donato Coco, additional exterior changes saw the Speciale benefit from updated front fascia with side fins and hood vents, a taller rear spoiler and redesigned bumpers, which include active aerodynamics designed by Ferrari Styling Centre in cooperation with Pininfarina to maximize and balance downforce, as well as minimize drag. 

The culmination of these improvements over the standard 458 led the Speciale to receive critical acclaim by journalists and enthusiasts alike upon its release in 2013, and has been the only car to unanimously win Evo’s prestigious Car Of The Year award in the history of the magazine. As Henry Catchpole noted, “Intensity, agility and a blistering pace are a given at this level, but the Speciale is something else… it flatters your driving but still tests your ability. Whatever your skill level, there’s never been a car that lets you fly so close to the sun.”

Over the years, the praise the 458 Speciale received has continued to age like a fine wine, with current reviews and enthusiasts continuing to sing praises about the near unbeatable driving experience the 458 Speciale offers to those lucky enough to get behind the wheel; everyone’s encounter with the Speciale since it’s debut has only further reaffirmed its brilliance. With its status as the final mid-engined naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari, and offering such a sublime driving experience, it is to no surprise that these cars are very quickly finding a special place in many prominent collector’s garages.

The Cultivated Collector’s 1986 Lamborghini Countach 5000QV, chassis 12990, is a head-turning example finished in the beautiful colorway of Rosso over Champagne. 12990 was delivered to its first owner by Meadowlands Car Imports of North Bergen, NJ in April of 1986, having left the factory with the order box checked for the optional rear wing, and retains it to this day, along with the highly uncommon front wing that was present to make the car road compliant. 

Today, having covered 26,500km, 12990 has enjoyed just two owners from new while spending time in both Michigan and Illinois, and wears mostly original Rosso paint with the stunning Champagne interior showing minimal wear from new. The sale of 12990 includes all records and paperwork from new, inclusive of the original sales invoice, as well as owners manuals. Benefitting from regular and consistent servicing from new, 12990 has recently undergone service in preparation for sale at Vantage Motors, which includes repair and remedy of an exhaust leak, as well as repairing the air injection pipes on the intake manifold. 12990 is eager to run with the best and enthusiastically begin its next chapter on the open roads.

One of 41 produced, The Cultivated Collector’s 1991 De Tomaso Pantera 90 Si, chassis 0025, benefits greatly from loving long-term previous ownership. Today, it presents as an exquisite and highly original example of the breed with 2 owners from new, its original window sticker, certificate of origin, and delivery documentation. 0025 is well known and oft regarded as one of the most original and best examples in the world, sporting its original Gandini designed bodywork, as well as engine and ZF transmission. Having covered a scant 11k KM from new, and with recent servicing at Vantage Motors, 0025 is ready to run with the best.

De Tomaso’s original Pantera can trace its roots to being built on the back of the Mangusta, a stunning machine that debuted in Modena in 1970 to critical acclaim from the general public and automotive press, the Mangusta would go on to be the marques most successful model to date. 

Back on North American soil, Ford was increasingly fraught with the concept of becoming the first American manufacturer to market a mid-engine sports car domestically. In the wake of the failed purchase attempt of automotive goliath Ferrari, Ford struck a deal with Italian Alejandro de Tomaso garnering them an 80% stake in his burgeoning Italian automotive company, De Tomaso. The result of this deal saw the De Tomaso Pantera subsequently available through Lincoln-Mercury dealership lots beginning in 1971.

The Ford-De Tomaso partnership would falter before it truly had a chance to flourish, despite selling over 5,000 examples of the Pantera within four years, largely in part due to the effects of the 1973 Energy Crisis. This event resulted in Ford pulling all backing out of De Tomaso in 1975, which did have a silver lining of providing De Tomaso the opportunity to support continued development of the Pantera, gaining the car moderate sales success in Europe. 

Production of the Pantera continued long into the 1980’s, and as such the company's cornerstone Pantera, was rapidly becoming obsolete in the face of modern offerings from rival marques. De Tomaso’s strategy was to lean on the brilliance of legendary Italian designer Marcello Gandini, who was responsible for penning the achingly beautiful Lamborghini Miura, Countach, and Diablo. Evolving the original Pantera design from Tom Tjaarda, Gandini would comprehensively refresh the Pantera into its penultimate iteration, the Pantera 90 Si, catapulting it into the domain of modern supercars. 

Beauty, however, was not merely skin deep. Underneath the stunningly reworked Gandini bodywork lay an extensively modified, and lighter, version of the Pantera’s original steel monocoque chassis. Major changes included a lighter, more rigid tubular rear subframe, Brembo brakes, and a new Ford sourced 5.0L V8 engine which was overhauled by the DeTomaso engineers, enabling the Gandini designed Pantera 90 Si to catapult to 60mph in 5.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 165mph.

Striking an ideal balance between performance and cost, the Pantera 90Si was poised to be the perfect limited-edition, entry-level supercar for De Tomaso as the 90’s approached. While the original Pantera was wildly successful in North America, De Tomaso made the decision to not sell the Pantera 90 Si in the North American market. Production began in 1990 with De Tomaso projecting to build 75 examples, however the Pantera 90 Si would end up an unfortunate victim of the struggling global economy in the early 1990’s, with only a reported 41 cars being produced and sold to the public over a 4 year production run.
